🌿 Our story, our standards, our people

We built the clinic we kept wishing existed.

Everwell started with two clinicians who were tired of 12-minute appointments, fax machines, and patients carrying their own medical history around in a plastic bag. Ten years later, we are a team of 62 people caring for more than 24,000 patients across Texas, Colorado, and 38 telehealth states β€” still convinced that good care begins with listening.

πŸ“– How we got here

A waiting room confession that turned into a company

In 2015, Dr. Maya Alvarado was working in a busy Austin primary care group where she was expected to see 26 patients a day. One afternoon, a patient named Mr. H. handed her a grocery bag of pill bottles and said, β€œI have seen five doctors this year and none of them know about each other.”

That sentence became the founding brief. Together with family nurse practitioner RenΓ©e Okafor β€” who had spent a decade in urgent care watching preventable problems come back again and again β€” Maya opened Everwell in a converted bungalow on Live Oak Boulevard in 2016. Four clinicians, two exam rooms, and one rule: 30 minutes minimum, every visit, every patient.

We have grown carefully since then. Every service line we added β€” skin care, hair care, oral care, weight management, wellness β€” was added because patients kept asking for a place where these things could be handled by people who already knew their history. That is still the test we apply before opening anything new.

🎯 What we are here to do

Mission, vision, and the promise we make to every patient

Our mission

To make whole-person healthcare ordinary β€” coordinated, affordable, and unhurried β€” so that getting good care does not require luck, time off work, or a medical degree to navigate.

Our vision

A country where a person's skin, teeth, weight, mental health, and blood pressure are treated by one connected team instead of six strangers with six separate charts.

Our promise

You will know what a visit costs before you book. You will understand your plan before you leave. And you will always be able to reach a human who has read your chart.

πŸ’š Six values we actually hire against

The things we will not compromise, even when it costs us money

Values are easy to print on a wall. These ones are built into how we schedule, how we pay clinicians, and how we decide what to offer.

Listen first, chart second

Visits start with your words, not a checklist. Clinicians document after the conversation, not during it, so you get eye contact instead of a keyboard.

No surprise bills. Ever.

Published self-pay prices, written estimates before care, and a billing team that answers the phone. If a cost is unclear, that is our problem to fix β€” not yours.

Evidence over trends

We prescribe what the research supports, at the lowest effective dose. No IV vitamin drips, no β€œadrenal fatigue” panels, no supplements we would not take ourselves.

The whole person

Your weight, sleep, stress, and skin are connected. So are your culture, budget, and work schedule. Good plans account for all of it or they do not work.

Access is part of care

Evening hours, telehealth, interpreters, sliding-scale slots, and plain-language instructions. A treatment you cannot access is not a treatment.

Privacy, without drama

Your data is used to treat you, not sold. We do not run third-party ad tracking on patient-facing pages, and you can request your full record at any time.

πŸ•°οΈ Ten years, carefully

A timeline of choices, not just growth

We have turned down franchise offers, private-equity roll-ups, and at least three β€œquick weight loss” product deals. Here is what we said yes to instead.

Everwell is clinician-owned. Our medical director reports to a clinical board, not to a sales target.
2016

Doors open in Austin

Four clinicians, two exam rooms, and a 30-minute visit standard that skeptics said would never pencil out.

2018

Denver clinic & first telehealth pilot

A second location in the Highland neighborhood, plus a small video program for follow-ups and prescription checks.

2020

Stay-home care goes permanent

Telehealth expands from a pilot to a core service. Our nurse line becomes 24/7 after patients ask for someone to call at 2am.

2021

Weight management, dietitian-led

We launch a 12-week program built around labs and behavior change β€” with medication as an option, not the whole plan.

2022

Skin, hair & oral care added

Dermatology and dental suites open so patients can handle acne, hair loss, and cleanings without a separate referral maze.

2024

Joint Commission accreditation

Independent surveyors review our safety, infection control, and medication protocols. We pass, then keep improving anyway.

2026

24,000 patients and counting

62 team members, two clinics, telehealth in 38 states, and the same founding rule about 30-minute visits.

Clinicians who chose this model on purpose

Every clinician at Everwell is salaried. Nobody here is paid per test, per procedure, or per product sold β€” which changes what a recommendation sounds like.

πŸ›‘οΈ Safety & clinical standards

What β€œclinician-owned” looks like in practice

Everwell does not operate a prescription mill. Weight management medication is prescribed only after a full metabolic workup, a review of your history, and a conversation about side effects, cost, and what happens if you stop. Ongoing monitoring is included, because starting a medication is the easy part.

Skin and hair treatments follow the same rule. We start with the lowest effective intervention, document why we chose it, and schedule a check-in to see whether it worked. If it did not, we change course rather than add another product.

We do: spend the first visit on history and goals, even when a prescription seems obvious.
We do: tell you when a treatment is not worth the cost, and what to try instead.
We do: coordinate with your outside specialists, with your written permission.
We do not: sell supplements, run commission-based programs, or upsell cosmetic packages during a medical visit.
🀲 Community & access

Care that stays in the neighborhood

About 8% of our clinical hours are reserved for patients who could not otherwise afford care. That is a business decision we make on purpose, every budget cycle.

Sliding-scale slots

Households under 200% of the federal poverty line can apply for reduced visit fees. Applications are reviewed in 48 hours and never affect the quality of care you receive.

Free community screenings

Every month we run blood pressure, glucose, and skin-check clinics at libraries, churches, and community centers in Austin and Denver. No insurance, no appointment needed.

Employer partnerships

We provide on-site flu clinics, wellness programming, and priority scheduling for 40+ small and mid-sized employers β€” priced so that small businesses can actually participate.
